Tremens Residency
CREW is proud to introduce Tremens, an XR piece set to premiere on 21 February 2026 at the Residenztheater in Munich, Germany.
Drawing inspiration from Shakespeare’s renowned tragedy Timon of Athens, Tremens is an immersive piece that lies at the intersection of theatre and VR. It is a blend of realities, incorporating 3D, animations of recorded and live performers, shifting worlds and real performances.
Based in the foyer of the Residenztheater, CREW draws inspiration from the architecture of the space, immediately evoking ancient Roman baths and transporting us into the subject of the play.
In November 2024 and summer 2025, CREW was invited to two residency sessions to continue working on the immersive experience. We had the opportunity to demonstrate our work to the public during the sessions, which allowed us to showcase and refine the production based on the feedback received from the participants. The performer, visible as an avatar, can duplicate, migrate and record their own body and animations.
Technically speaking, this project was created with results of the EU project Max-R and our EXP Framework: (supported by EMIL XR), which was developed during our last research project to enhance the various aspects of the performer’s tools.
With the support from the ResidenzTheater, Flanders State of the Art and Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
